out of the ordinary. by Sea-of-Ice out of the ordinary. by Sea-of-Ice
facebook!

who's catching who?

Wow..where to start?! This is a photo from the adventure I had with Sarah Ann Loreth Photography, Brian Oldham Photography and David Talley | Photography. Sarah came down from New Hampshire to LA! After I heard she was hanging out with some other photographers I jumped on the band wagon to meet everyone :)

I've never met with other conceptual photographers before, so it was refreshing to talk about similar things. We all had a blast...and are all probably very sore from hiking up jagged cliffs lol...

Not my usual style of shooting. I didn't even intend to shoot that day so I had no concept or props prepared! I just used what I could on the fly. This is a combination of 3 different exposures all shot on scene :)

p.s. to catch that starfish brian and I got destroyed by this wave....but it was worth it!

Model: Brian

Assistants: Sarah and David

Enjoy!

Fishing the Antigravity Shores is a challenge, so listen up.

First off: bait. You may think you know what's biting, what they want, but here things are... different. You might be tempted to use your favorites -- night crawlers, meal worms, those nasty scented lures from Bass Pro Shop -- but instead consider the lowly indigenous Inch Worm. Around here they can grow to a meter, so use care with selection. But I think you'll be delightfully surprised.

Nextly, it's important to secure yourself before casting. Many newbs make this mistake and we end up having to fish them out of the time/space continuum. Very unpleasant for all involved. Just make sure to use the velcro anchors provided and you'll be fine.

Finally, a word about catch-and-release. We take that very seriously here. NOTHING you land should be removed from the Shores, or reality destabilization will occur. And god help you if you plan to eat anything caught here. Just don't. Last thing you need is molecules of fish disappearing from your cortex a week from now.

Now get out there and fish your brains out!

Whoops, poor choice of words.

I wish my mind worked like yours. My limitation in art is apparent when it comes to making new or unique pieces. I get the impression that the work which goes into your shots has as much of an interesting story as the shots themselves, it must be fun to work with you

love your photos.. always creative, well executed, perfectly framed.. you have an incredible talent.
I think the gray/exposure is just perfect in this shot.. more contrast would have lost some of the surreal mood.
keep up the good work robby..

I looooove the idea, it is so freaking cool :D
you could maybe have added a bit more black to the pic but the other things are just amazing
I really wonder how you did that...is he copied in or something cut out?

awesome concept, really effective. i like that you can pull stuff like this off naturally without planning overly about it.

critically though, i would like to see this in colour. or if in black and white, i really feel that it needs greater contrast and range in the shades. i think the whole "in-the-air" idea has a lot of depth to it, but the really muted grey takes away that depth and leaves it feeling kind of flat.

apart from that, another fine work. :D

oh, i like how it turned out! :)especially the darker bits on his pants and shadows on his shirt. i think you can see the rope better too.
haha, i know what you mean, adjusting tones and trying to get both details and colours exactly as you'd like is hard. :P

looks great! :D

Thank you :) Ideally I wanted that too, but it got really tricky with the work I put into my tones originally...with more darks I ended up losing a lot of detail and the tones muddled together...this piece was actually really difficult to get to a point where I was ok with it :) I agree with what you said, thanks for the constructive crit.
