Sometimes we carry around this side of us we aren't always proud of...Oni means a demon or troll in japanese folklore. Its hard when some days you are swallowed up by the evil inside...I had to conceptualize this type of idea. It is something everyone carries with us, a ying and a yang I suppose.
My sister in law came to visit for the weekend and decided to do a last minute photoshoot of her! I LOVED this mask and had to use it!

the mask's name is named after its creator, Hannya, who perfected the design. Its called oni because the mask portrays women who have given into their negative emotions, thus transforming them into demons. The mask looks angry and happy looking at it straight, but tilted down or to the side show its sadness, making these characters sympathetic. Though they may have become evil demons, we still can share the same sadness we all feel.
These masks were generally used in Japanese theatre to tell, well stories of such women who became oni.
